I went out to the Owl's Roost trail and got some more video. I edited
more than 30 minutes worth of video down to a bit more than 5 minutes.
I got some help from a couple of friendly riders on the trail who were
willing to be in, and help shoot the video. Get the VIDEO (.wmv 19mb 5min 4sec) and check out the expanded Owl's Roost trail info. Also be sure to check out the new VIDEOS section of the site, where you will be able to find all of the videos in one convenient place. |

Helmet Cam Video - Salem Lake |

I have put together the results of my fist trip out with the
helmet
camera mount. It worked pretty well. I recorded about 15 minutes of
video, but instead of boring everyone with 15 minutes of clips, I
edited it down to about 1 minute 45 seconds. I was riding out at Salem
Lake park in Winston-Salem NC, in the trails that are up in the woods.
The video includes some of the ravines, some jumps, one wipeout, and
some footage of flesh wounds from earlier wrecks at salem lake. Note
that the broken helmet was not mine. I don't know what poor guy ate it
hard enough to destroy his helmet like that. Download the VIDEO (.wmv format 1min
45sec 6.6mb). I also have another video of a section of trail I call the BOWL (.wmv 1min 24sec 5.3mb). |

It's official. Summer is finally gone. The warm weather which
stuck around until just last week is all gone. The clocks will be
changed on sunday, and the sun has gone south.
But it is all ok. This morning we had the first frost of the season,
and I had to break out the hat and windbreaker for the morning ride to
work. I miss all the sunlight in the winter, but I don't mind the cold
so much. It just means I have to wear a bit more clothing. I do know
that I get to feel much more alive and in touch with the world than all
the people who are riding by me in their cars. It is also good because
it means that the leaves are falling, and I will be able to get good
gps readings in the woods since the signal won't be obscured by the
leaves. So... MORE TRAIL MAPS COMING SOON! |

last weekend, my friend Matt, and I spent some time playing
on a new jump, and we shot some video. I had a good time on the jump,
even if I don't get the most air. Any how, download the video and check
it out. This is my first attempt at making video, so enjoy! Download the VIDEO (.wmv format, 45 seconds, 3.2mb). |

$2.77 CVS Camera Helmet Mount |

Cheapo Helmet Mount I got a CVS disposable video camera a few weeks ago with the idea that
I would use it to make some videos of local trails to put up on
my site. I also saw a nice howto for mounting the camera to a helmet
that inspired me. The howto I saw involved drilling the helmet, and I
did not want to do that, so I came up with my own design. My mount
design is simple, easy to mount and dismount, does not destroy the
helmet or affect the balance of the helmet, and is very cheap. I have also added a link to first helmet cam video!
Materials Needed:
1. 4" or 5" diameter PVC pipe at least 9" long - can be found for free at building sites
2. Epoxy for plastics - I paid $2.77 look for something that mentions plastics or PVC
3. 2 Zip Ties
4. Rubber Bands
5. CVS video camera
Tools Needed:
1. Ruler
2. Sharpie
3. Handheld saw - I used a hacksaw
4. Jigsaw - optional, but reccomended
5. Locking Pliers - not needed unless you use the Jigsaw
